We have always enjoyed lunch on Sundays at Speech House and were very much looking forward to staying for the weekend. It was unfortunate that a power cut due to a storm caused our accommodation to be left without power. We awoke at 4am freezing cold with no heating or hot water. We informed reception and after some time were offered an alternative room to shower and told to come back after 2 hours for an update. This went on for the whole day and we kept returning every 2 hours until finally in the evening we were told we could permanently move into another room. We weren't offered an apology at any point, no compensation or even a complimentary glass of wine! Plus I've stayed at a lot of high class hotels but £9 and £11 for a very average glass of house white and red is daylight robbery in my opinion. We will not be back.

My friend and I came here for a walk nearby and some lunch afterwards with my little dog and her baby. We were very well looked after and lunch was tasty!

Party nights are dissapointing especially at 48 pounds with very average plated food and music.
The meal was advertised with Coffee and Mince Pie,which when I requested these were initially refused.I complained, these were then begrudgingly provided.

Stayed for 2 nights. Rooms were very clean and cozy. The staff there were incredibly friendly and accommodating. Food was wonderful aswell and there were lots of options. Location was good, there were many trails within walking distance that took you into forest of dean. Overall, very pretty place to stay. Highly recommend.

We were only booked in for one night but I wish we had longer. The staff are friendly and helpful. If you want to explore the forest of dean then this is a perfect base.

First experience staying anywhere in the UK. Staff was amazing and were to quick to answer any questions and took the extra time for anything we needed.

A few more veggie & vegan items needed for the menu (which however was gastro and reasonably priced), though otherwise the perfect stop if you want to charge your car after a good drive. Very good!

Great location for walks and local interest ( including a steam train!)
Very comfortable, well appointed hotel, friendly, helpful staff and out of season was very good value.
We ate in the 'fine dining' restaurant one night and it was terrific.
Would recommend it unreservedly.

Went for lunch today, had a tomato and mozzarella salad. Contained one cheap tasteless salad tomato and about 3 bags of lettuce, it was awful £10 for a lettuce lunch.
Then on leaving my friend went to use the disabled toilet and nearly fell on the floor as the seat was loose and slipped off and onto the floor. This could have caused a bad accident. On informing a member of staff, they said yes they new it was loose.
My drink was later than my friends, I had to go and ask for it, and we pretty much could have walked out without paying as no staff about. Won't be going again.

Lovely historic building, dating back to the 1600s. Spotlessly clean, comfy bed and pillows and a decent breakfast.

Tried a few places when on biking trips with the boys. This will be a regular. Clean comfy rooms, loads of parking.
Whilst it’s not top drawer, all you can eat breaky ticks a box for sure.
Make sure you send it!

Having worked at the hotel during my college days in the 90's -
Today as a family we attempted afternoon tea......
Questionable service, other staff interrupting our conversation with the waitress, being asked to lay the table cloth is not exactly great customer service, a better approach would have been 'please give us a moment to lay the table and we will be right with you'; we made a mistake with a prepaid afternoon tea voucher having expired by 'one week', and it would not be honoured....we feel letdown by this money grab of no grace period (be warned), another voucher had been claimed, however we would have paid for our children....it was really odd that we had to order before they could check the vouchers? Plenty of room for improvement!

Popped into The Speach House for a light lunch on the way home from The Forest of Dean. Could not fault it. The staff were friendly & efficient and the service was excellent. The sandwiches & cakes we chose were well presented & so tasty. We will definitely be going back to try out the main course menu which looked amazing as it was served to other customers. The seating is the restaurant was well spaced out and in a lovely light & airy room. Highly recommended.
